An introduction to Printmaking Course for 10 weeks starting Tuesday September 22nd to Tuesday December 1st 2026.
There are also options to book a 5 week course from either:
• 22nd September to 20th October.
• 3rd November to 1st December.
Please note: Half term is Tuesday 27th October.
Course Summary

All materials are supplied. Tea and coffee available. Please bring a packed lunch. Bring an apron or old shirt.
Course techniques overview
An introduction to printing with Tetrapak
Tetrapak is the foil lined packaging for cartons which can be reused as an etching drypoint plate. In the class you will be able to explore various styles of tetrapak images made by artists ,learn how to cut the Tetrapak and carve into the Tetrapak. You will acquire skills in how to use the drypoint tools, how to apply ink using intaglio techniques and how to use the press and discover the magic of printing an image of your choice.
Week 2 You will be able to explore adding the technique of monoprinting with your tetrapak using a roller with stencils to make multi layered prints. You will learn how to cut stencils and use a roller.
Week 3 You will be able to explore adding the technique of chincole printing with your tetrapak using coloured tissue paper to make multi layered prints. You will learn how to cut and apply the tissue .
Please bring an A5 sized image of your choice. Here are a few suggestions: Your pet, flowers, vegetables, fish, your garden a view from your window, any image that you like! This can be a photo, a drawing or a postcard.
An introduction to Linocutting
You will learn how to transfer, carve and discover the magic of printing an image of your choice.
You will acquire skills in how to use a range of linocutting tools and techniques to carve your lino. How to use ink rollers and the press to print your first image.
We will explore creative approaches to lino printmaking. You will be introduced to examples of work by lino cutting artists to understand possible techniques and ideas.
Please bring a post card sized image of your choice: Your pet, flowers, your garden a view from your window, any image that you like ! This can be a photo, a drawing or a postcard.
In week 2 you will develop skills in using tools to highlight your image and gaining skills in the use of colour and mixing inks.
An introduction to Monoprinting
You will learn how to create marks and shapes with various brushes and tools.
Please bring with you an A4 image of plants, a tree, a bird, your garden or landscape to work from, any image that you like! This can be a photo or a photocopy.
Week 2 An introduction to monoprinting by drawing and using textures and stencils. You will learn how to create line drawings using an inked plate and drawing tools. You will then experiment with printing textures and cutting stencils. Printing with leaves and feathers. Please bring with you an A4 photocopy image to work from that you are happy to draw over – not precious just inspiring! Some collected leaves and feathers.
An introduction to Reduction Linocut
You will be introduced to the technique of reduction lino by being shown examples of artist’s lino cuts and how they created the work. You will acquire skills in how to translate your image into a 4 colour reduction linocut. In the first class you will print your first 4 background colours and start the cutting for the second colour.
The following weeks you will complete your next cuts and next layers of printing until all 4 colours are complete.
Please bring a post card sized image of your choice: Your pet, flowers, your garden a view from your window, any image that you like! This can be a photo, a drawing or a postcard. A bold simple image / pattern will work best.
